On December 9, 2023, the long-awaited event took place – the Open Day at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, called KPIAbitFest. Every year, the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute attracts the attention of applicants due to the high quality of education, scientific and technical research and engineering implementations. On this day, schoolchildren who will choose a specialty for their studies can attend this event, get acquainted with the university’s educational programs, talk to teachers, see prepared stands, installations or scientific and technical developments that demonstrate certain achievements of employees, graduate students and students of various faculties, illustrate the directions of their scientific and technical activities.
The event took place on December 9, 2023, in the building of the H.I. Denysenko Library at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The spacious lobbies on the four floors of the library were quite crowded with visitors. Students came with their parents, as well as on their own, alone or in groups. KPIAbitFest was full of events – discussions, communication and answers to questions from guests who came to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
This year the Department of Biomedical Cybernetics was represented in the lobby of the third floor of the library. One of the demonstration tools was a computer development that was made as a graduation work of a student of our department. The program allows visualizing three-dimensional medical and biological images. The gadgets provided animations of working in the program, as well as access to this development via the Internet. The applicants could launch the program on their own and join the management of the medical image: rotate, change the color, contrast, cut and enlarge a certain part of the three-dimensional image.
Faculties and departments at the KPIAbitFest event used installations, models, moving models, and posters as illustrative material. Moving color computer images demonstrated by our department this year contrasted and complemented the presentation works and developments of other departments in a certain way, had a modern look and naturally attracted attention.
The main questions asked by schoolchildren and their parents while watching the demonstration were: what benefits such developments can bring to a doctor, what implementations are possible, and how they can engage in interesting professional activities. The students were provided with information about the process of studying at the Department of Biomedical Cybernetics, the main disciplines of the educational program and the areas of the most relevant scientific and technical research, in particular in the field of artificial intelligence, and the prospects for professional activity in the field of biomedical cybernetics in Ukraine and abroad.
